Anomaly Scan
- Anomaly refers to the scan o the anatomic structure of the fetus/baby. It is done in the 20th week of the pregnancy.
- It is the Level 2 of the ultrasound scan in any pregnancy.
- It is an important scan that gives a detailed study of the fetus, pelvic organs, and the placenta and whether the fetus/baby is developing normally.
- It examines every part of the fetus/baby giving information on the growth of the fetus/baby.
- Major parts which are checked are the brain, heart, spine, stomach, face, kidneys, liver, and limbs.
- The scan aims to detect any rare conditions related to the brain, heart, spine, stomach, face, kidneys, liver, and limbs.
- The scan detects abnormalities if any, which in it helps the doctors and pregnant lady to take the further decision, on whether to continue the pregnancy or not.
- No fasting is required, one can eat and drink normally before the scan.
- Full bladder is not required before the scan.
- It takes about 45-60 minutes to perform the same.
- The scan is not painful, but a slight pressure might be felt during the scanning.
- Anomaly Scan is safe, not causing any harm to the pregnant lady or the fetus/baby.
